I recently posted a recitation of this ghazl by Amjad Islam Amjad. It is one of my all time favourites.
Here is the ghazl.
kahāñ aa ke rukne the rāste kahāñ moḌ thā use bhuul jā
vo jo mil gayā use yaad rakh jo nahīñ milā use bhuul jā
vo tire nasīb kī bārisheñ kisī aur chhat pe baras ga.iiñ
dil-e-be-ḳhabar mirī baat sun use bhuul jā use bhuul jā
maiñ to gum thā tere hī dhyān meñ tirī aas tere gumān meñ
sabā kah ga.ī mire kaan meñ mire saath aa use bhuul jā
kisī aañkh meñ nahīñ ashk-e-ġham tire ba.ad kuchh bhī nahīñ hai kam
tujhe zindagī ne bhulā diyā tū bhī muskurā use bhuul jā
kahīñ chāk-e-jāñ kā rafū nahīñ kisī āstīñ pe lahū nahīñ
ki shahīd-e-rāh-e-malāl kā nahīñ ḳhūñ-bahā use bhuul jā
kyuuñ aTā huā hai ġhubār meñ ġham-e-zindagī ke fishār meñ
vo jo dard thā tire baḳht meñ so vo ho gayā use bhuul jā
tujhe chāñd ban ke milā thā jo tire sāhiloñ pe khilā thā jo
vo thā ek dariyā visāl kā so utar gayā use bhuul jā
I am trying to translate the ghazl in English to the best of my abilities and understanding.
kahāñ aa ke rukne the rāste kahāñ moḌ thā use bhuul jā
vo jo mil gayā use yaad rakh jo nahīñ milā use bhuul jā
Forget where the roads were to stop or where the bend was
Forget what you did not get and focus on what you did
vo tire nasīb kī bārisheñ kisī aur chhat pe baras ga.iiñ
dil-e-be-ḳhabar mirī baat sun use bhuul jā use bhuul jā
Your blessings have been bestowed to another
Oh ignorant heart, listen to me and forget it
maiñ to gum thā tere hī dhyān meñ tirī aas tere gumān meñ
sabā kah ga.ī mire kaan meñ mire saath aa use bhuul jā
I was lost in your thoughts; in hope of you, in the mirage of you
A gentle breeze whispered to me to come along and forget it
kisī aañkh meñ nahīñ ashk-e-ġham tire ba.ad kuchh bhī nahīñ hai kam
tujhe zindagī ne bhulā diyā tū bhī muskurā use bhuul jā
There are no more tears as nothing lacks in life after you
Your life has forgotten you; you, too, smile and forget it
kahīñ chāk-e-jāñ kā rafū nahīñ kisī āstīñ pe lahū nahīñ
ki shahīd-e-rāh-e-malāl kā nahīñ ḳhūñ-bahā use bhuul jā
There is neither darning of cuts to a body nor is the blood visible
As no blood is spilled of those who lose their lives of sorrow; thus forget it
kyuuñ aTā huā hai ġhubār meñ ġham-e-zindagī ke fishār meñ
vo jo dard thā tire baḳht meñ so vo ho gayā use bhuul jā
Why be covered in the fog of sadness of your life
That pain was your destiny; it happened, now forget it
tujhe chāñd ban ke milā thā jo tire sāhiloñ pe khilā thā jo
vo thā ek dariyā visāl kā so utar gayā use bhuul jā
The moon and and the blossoms at the shore of your life
It was a river of communion that waned so forget it
I hope the translation makes sense.
